Threads of the Past launch

Hey friends!

Threads of the past is a flying prototype that is trying to simulate the smooth gameplay of games such as Journey and Abzu in a flying game with small interactions such as threading light rope between pillars to create shapes that cleanse the nightmares in between and transform them into dreamlike beauty.

There's a story to be found in the environment, but you'll have to go looking for it, because there is no dialogue or text to help form the story. We're excited to find out whether you can figure out the broad strokes of the story as you're flying and/or whether you find the flying mechanic comfortable and fun.

Our team, FairFire, is relatively new to posting on itch.io, so if we make any mistakes, please bear with us and let us know!

What we're currently working on

Collision aversion

We're trying to improve the flying even further, by making the collision aversion system work better. Right now, you'll notice if you fly towards a staircase, in some cases the collision aversion will turn you around, instead of making the simple decision to fly slightly upwards.

Art

We would like to add small effects to improve clarity, like a reaction from the liquid if you fly close to it and a clear indication of when you can boost your speed again, instead of having to mash the button until it works.

A direction

While the general goal of the prototype is to have a more subtle story and direction, right now there's really no indicator of whether you're going in the right direction. There's a place to explore with a story in place, but once you've explored it, there's no way to move on. The current portal leads to the same place, but in the future we'd like to add more areas and have the portal lead there.

Thank you for reading our first devlog,

Daniel - Game Developer
